What is a Delayed Antibiotic Prescription?
Overuse of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance. This means that antibiotics are becoming less effective at fighting infections. An example of this is the MRSA and c-difficile super bugs.
Antibiotics offer little or no benefit for sore throats, ear infections, coughs or colds. Many of these conditions get better on their own without antibiotics.
You may be given a prescription just in case you do not get better. This will allow time for the illness to get better, but also allow you to obtain antibiotics if it doesn't. This is called a delayed prescription
The prescription will be left at the surgery reception desk for you to collect.
You may collect the prescription in ********* days time if you do not feel better.
