GP Talks: Are you at risk of type 2 diabetes?
Watch the video on this page as Dr Amir Morjaria, GP at our partner practice Lakeside Healthcare Corby and Brigstock Surgeries, talks about type 2 diabetes and how you can check if you're at risk.
This video is part of our awareness campaign for Diabetes Week.
Watch now: GP Talks type 2 diabetes
Dr Amir Morjaria explains the key risk factors and how to take the next step.

Type 2 diabetes often develops slowly, without obvious symptoms.
That’s why it’s so important to know your risk, even if you’re feeling fine.
You may be at higher risk if you:
- Are over 40, or over 25 if you’re South Asian, Black African or Caribbean
- Have a family history of diabetes
- Are overweight
- Have high blood pressure
- Had gestational diabetes during pregnancy
Been invited for an NHS Health Check?
If you’ve received a letter inviting you for an NHS Health Check, please don’t ignore it.
It’s a free check for people aged 40 to 74, designed to help us spot early signs of conditions like:
- Type 2 diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Heart disease
The check usually includes:
- A blood test
- A blood pressure check
- A few questions about your lifestyle and family history
It only takes a few minutes, but it gives us a much clearer picture of your health and helps us support you in the right way.
Not had a letter?
You can still check your risk online. Visit Diabetes UK, answer a few simple questions, and find out if it’s time to get checked.
If you're still not sure, you can contact us through Anima online or by calling after 12noon.
