Showcasing our services at our first Open Day
Our staff at Cottingham Road surgery welcomed patients and local MP Lee Barron to the recent Open Day, showcasing the services that they offer.
Clinical staff were on hand to talk about our clinics and services including for women’s health, childhood immunisations, dermatology and respiratory issues, while our Personalised Care Team promoted the support that our social prescribers and care coordinators can give for non-clinical and lifestyle issues, as well as showing patients around the on-site Wellbeing Garden.
Lead GP Dr Sudeep Rai said the practice was delighted with the success of its first Open Day. “It was a wonderful opportunity for us to meet patients in an informal setting, to spend real quality time talking with them and to highlight the breadth of services and clinical expertise available at the practice. The whole team enjoyed coming together, and the event gave us a valuable chance to collaborate and strengthen our connection with the community. We are grateful to everyone who attended, and we extend special thanks to our staff for their hard work in organising the day.’

Lakeside Healthcare's Chief Executive, Jessica Bawden, welcomed the visitors and invited Mr Barron, MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire along. She introduced him to the team, as well as to Mr David Harland, Chair of the surgery’s Patient Participation Group. She said: ‘Thanks to the Corby team for the planning and effort that went into the event. Many, including the GPs, gave up their Saturday morning voluntarily to take part. Thanks also to everyone who came along, particularly to those who were so impressed with what they saw that they signed up as patients on the spot!
‘We also appreciated Mr Barron taking the time to speak to our staff as well as the team from Andy’s Mans Club who was there. It was a chance to talk about the demands and successes of delivering crucial healthcare and wellbeing services at a local level. The team also enjoyed having the opportunity to meet up as, during busy and long surgery hours, it is virtually impossible to get everyone in one place at the same time!’

David Harland, Chair of the Patient Participation Group, told managers: ‘I enjoyed talking to the doctors, nursing staff and others. I was impressed … it seems like a great team! I know from experience that making a business unit work well takes a lot of behind-the-scenes support ... so well done.’
Afterwards patients gave their feedback:
- Liz Swinburn said: ‘I thought it was a very useful morning, it was helpful for me and I asked for advice about a couple of different issues.’
- Coleen Addison from Brigstock said: ‘It was very helpful and informative and definitely worth the trip!’
- Isobel McCreadie said: ‘I was quite overwhelmed with the facilities and what the surgery offers. We were really very happy. Everyone was so friendly and so I signed up and am now a patient here!’
- Her husband, John, added: ‘It was absolutely brilliant, very informative. I was very impressed by the whole thing. It was definitely worth coming and I would recommend it.’
