Paramedic Andre Joins Corby Team

Paramedic Andre Magner has joined the team at Lakeside Corby and Brigstock surgeries and is looking forward to expanding the skills he gained serving with ambulance crews across the Midlands.
A major change has been switching from the acute work he is used to, to the long-term care-giving of General Practice. He began by shadowing the doctors, nurses and community teams to understand how his role and experience dovetails with theirs. Now he is getting to know the patients, running his own clinic and making home visits.
Andre said: ‘It is very different to frontline ambulance work and to move into a Primary Care role made sense as I wanted to expand my knowledge. There is a lot to learn, and I am surrounded by very good clinicians with years of experience.
‘As a paramedic transitioning into Primary Care it is about switching off my “emergency” brain and seeing how my skills complement those of my colleagues. There is a lot to learn and I have gone in with that mentality. I deal with minor illnesses and injuries and have seen just about everything. There are some challenges and I really am enjoying it.
‘I have felt really welcomed by the team and I love working in healthcare and can’t see myself doing anything else. The next step would be to get my prescribing qualification and potentially move on to other courses to equip me more to deal with minor illnesses or long-term conditions.’
