Priscilla joins our central HR team

Priscilla Uttete is our new Senior Human Resources Advisor supporting the HR function in our Corby, Kettering and Oundle practices. In an HR career spanning nearly ten years she has worked for a variety of companies, from those with just 20 employees up to a global tech giant employing 300,000.

She has dealt with the entire HR mix, including recruitment, onboarding and training, complex employee relation cases, change management and dealing with grievances and disciplinary issues.

Priscilla joined Lakeside as she wanted to expand her ten-year HR experience to Primary Care and has already learned a lot about Lakeside’s culture and ‘people-centred’ approach.

She says one of the necessities for HR personnel is to have ‘professional courage’:

‘The role requires a significant amount of balance and well-roundedness, particularly if you are advising or having difficult conversations with people who are much more senior than yourself.

It's about being a people person and, most importantly, having passion for what you do.

You need to balance the needs of the company with the needs of the individual and so they feel supported.’

Priscilla credits her previous roles with giving her the skills and drive she has now. ‘I have developed professionally and personally when I am in industries or businesses that are the leaders within their field. One of my motivators is being challenged and so I thought that having an HR role within a leading company in Primary Care would be great experience. I do want to stretch myself and the business model here is something I have never seen before.

‘A big part of how I learn, particularly when I am new to the industry, is speaking with many other different stakeholders to understand what they do, how their cog in this healthcare machine works and how it all interconnects. I do feel very comfortable and welcomed at Exchange Court and it has been the right move for me.

‘The team is lovely and we discuss some of the cases, especially when managing Employee relations because it can be tricky so we can discuss the pros and cons of different approaches. That opportunity to discuss is quite magical, you are polishing your skills and how you look at people and the way they handle things.’

‘It is about how I can support the Northants practices because each is different, so it is about getting to know their size, culture and needs. I like a variety of work with different problems as that allows my brain to keep ticking and come to a solution.’
